Reuben C. Hinderaker, age 87, of Lake Mills, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, Iowa, with Rev. Brent Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Synod Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Reuben Carroll Hinderaker was born on May 18, 1929 at Radcliffe, Iowa, to Clarence and Ruth (Larson) Hinderaker. When he was a young child he moved with his parents to Sargeant, Minnesota, where he attended country school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On November 7, 1987 he was united in marriage with Rose (Hansen) Braadland at Thompson, Iowa.

Reuben farmed and worked at various factory jobs before retiring in 1994. He loved going to county fairs, parades, and various threshing events in the area, as well as attending old car and tractor shows. Reuben also enjoyed fishing. One of his favorite things to do was going to The Grand Caf and Dons Motor Mart in Lake Mills to have coffee and visit.

He was a very kind and considerate person who liked the simple things in life. Reuben was a member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, and his faith was always very important to him.

He is survived by a sister Audrey Halsey of Austin, MN; four brothers Gaylord (Sharlene) Hinderaker of Waverly, IA, Roger (Nancy) Hinderaker of Shell Rock, IA, Harold Hinderaker of Forest City, IA, and Charles (Shirley) of Austin, MN; four step-daughters Marilyn (Bert) Songstad of Phoenix, AZ, Susan (Darris) Peterson of Scarville, IA, Julie (Rick) Aragon of Arvada, CO, and Lori (Mike) Bethel of Big Lake, MN; step-son Lon Sundsvold and Meri Lee Cowling of Hibbing, MN; a step-daughter-in-law Karen Sundsvold of Grand Rapids, MN; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers- and sisters-in-law Joyce Anderson of Clarion, IA, Howard (Dottie) Hansen of Spring Hill, FL, Harlan (Lola) Hansen of Glendale, AZ, Merv (Klaudene) Hansen of Sun Prairie, WI, Frank (Jan) Hansen of Iola, WI, and Jerry Hansen of Waupaca, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Reuben was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose, a sister Phyllis Hinderaker, two brothers-in-law Sy Halsey and Howard Anderson, sister-in-law Bobbie Hansen, and a step-son Larry Sundsvold.
