17 July 1916: Annville lost another representative citizen in the death at an early hour this morning of Andrew Kreider, president of the Annville National bank. A native of Lebanon County and a resident of Annville for almost a half century, Mr. Kreider was prominently identified with practically all of the progressive movements In the church and business life of the community where the Kreider name for a century has been a household one. Had he been spared to live until next Tuesday, Mr. Kreider would have attained his 88th year, he having been born July 18, 1828, on the Kreider homestead on South Annville Township. Notwithstanding his advanced age, Mr. Kreider continued to he actively identified with his many business interests up to the time of his death. He was a remarkable man in many ways, retaining both physical and mental vigor until complications incident to his almost four score and ten years attacked him. Death occurred at three thirty o'clock this morning after an Illness of some length. During the last month his decline was seen to be rapid but as late as yesterday he was seemingly in good health and spirits. A stroke of paralysis during the night hastened the end. Andrew Kreider was a son of David and Sarah (Henry) Kreider, being the eldest of a family of ten children. The founder of the Kreider family came from Switzerland, settling in the southern part of what is now Lebanon county, he being one of several brothers who came to Pennsylvania together and settled In the Lebanon-Lancaster district, where by reason, of their sturdy honesty and other sterling qualities they for generations enjoyed distinction at the hands of their neighbors. Andrew Kreider was reared on the Kreider farm and attended the country schools in South Annville Township, later enrolling as a student at Annville academy. Following the war of the Rebellion, during which he served as a member of a cavalry company of Pennsylvania emergency troops, having enlisted in September 1862, he in 1867 established his home in Annville. For several years he was engaged in the lumber and real estate business during which time he did much to bring Annville into prominence as a growing business community. When the Annville savings bank was organized in 1873 he was one of the promoters becoming a director and continued to be identified with the undertaking when it became the Annville National bank. He became its vice president and following the death of President Judge Kinports he was elected to the presidency of the Institution which has continued one of the leading banks of the Lebanon Valley. At the time of his death he was the only surviving director of the original board. He was deeply interested in the continued success of both the U. B. church and the Lebanon Valley College, both of which institutions enjoyed his generous support. He was also a director of the Annville Mutual Fire Insurance Company. On May 29, 1866, Mr. Kreider was united in marriage with Miss Emma L. Miller, a daughter of George A. Miller, of North Annville Township. Four children, Sarah, Raymond, Edwin and Anna E. Kreider were born to them, all of whom with the widow survive him. Two brothers, Joseph H. Kreider and Congressman A. S, Kreider, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Brightbill, Mrs. Lydia Click and Mrs. Tobias Bomberger, all of Annville, are also left. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Kreider residence on East Main street with services in the U. B. church and interment in Mt. Annville cemetery.
