Porter Harrison Melton was born a son of Shadrack Scott and Fatina Faye (Glidewell) Melton. He first married Lottie Sells on Nov. 17,1911 in Clinton Co., KY. They were the parents of at least 6 children in the 1930 census: Edith (Cash), Jewell (Boils) Willie 1920-2000, Dessie (vaughn), Cordell and Kendall. In 1940 Porter was in Henry Co., IN living with his brother David G. Melton.

He married Oct. 9,1941 in Henry Co., IN to Lola Albertson. They were the parents of several children and they lived in the Randolph Co., IN area.
