2010 obituary. OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Patricia Mary (Drake) Gervais quietly left this world on Tuesday evening. Born on Nov. 2, 1925, in Brewer, she was raised in Auburn and Lewiston along with her three sisters, Mary, Pete and Sheila by her parents, Joseph and Priscilla (Marcous) Drake. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943 and trained for a while in the Nursing Cadet program during WWII. After the war, the family moved to Westbrook, where Pat met her future husband, Merton Henry Gervais. They were married on April 14, 1947, and a year later Pat gave birth to the first of their eight children. Over the next few years, Pat and Mert lived in many locations, while Mert completed his service with the U.S. Marine Corps, until they finally settled in the Pine Point section of Scarborough, becoming members of the St. Margaret's Catholic Parish in Old Orchard Beach, where they were very active in the Knights of Columbus and the K of C Auxiliary. After Mert's passing in 1966, Pat took on the challenge of raising her children alone. She will be remembered by many of the families in the neighborhood at that time. Pat made a point of attending most of the Little League games at the Blue Point School and the soccer games of Scarborough High School in the 1970s. She was best known at the time as Mrs. G. In her later years, she worked as a housemother for multiply handicapped adults on Woodfords Street in Portland, a challenge for which she was uniquely qualified. After retiring Pat signed on as a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics and later joined the Altrusa Club of Portland through which she made many wonderful friends. A private graveside service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. After 44 years as a single mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother, mom will be laid to rest, reunited at last with her husband. At mom's request, we will be having a life celebration party on Oct. 31, two days before what would have been her 85th birthday. She always liked a good party. We welcome all of her many friends to join us in celebrating her life and the many things she did to enrich our lives. Our thanks to Roger Tousignant, a long time friend of the family, at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home for all of his assistance during this sad time.
