William A. ‘Bush' Cooper

William A. "Bush" Cooper, 75, of Cunningham, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at Paris Regional Medical Center.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Cunningham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vivian Crowson and the Rev. Tony Corso officiating. Burial follows in Restland Cemetery at Cunningham.

The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1930, in southern Lamar County, the son of Cletus Erastus and Clara Medsker Cooper, on the family farm not far from where he still lived. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Jo Delle Betterton on July 11, 1953, building 48 years of family and memories before her death on Nov. 3, 2001. He was a farmer and rancher in the southern part of Lamar County and was a member of the Cunningham United Methodist Church.

His parents; a son-in-law, Brit Phillips, and a niece, Mona Childres, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include four children, Anaya Phillips of Cunningham, Ricky Cooper and wife, Kaye, of Clardy, Nikki Smith and husband, Andy, of Oroville, Calif. and William Deryl Cooper and wife, Jennifer, of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Lindy Cheatwood and husband, Gary Jr., of Sulphur Springs, Bonnie Smith and husband, R. Mike of Commerce, Jacob Smith of Paris, Ryan Cooper of Paris, Nathan Smith of Oroville, Calif., Khimen Cooper of Paris and Michael Smith of Oroville; one great-granddaughter, Allie Brynn Cheatwood of Sulphur Springs; one sister, Joyce Smith and husband, Weldon, of Bogata, along with a niece, Jenita Baker and husband, Charlie, of Cunningham.

Casket bearers will be Jacob Smith, Ryan Cooper, Nathan Smith, Michael Smith, Gary Cheatwood Jr., and R. Mike Smith.

Honorary bearers will be Bill Page, Ben Holland, Buddy Taylor, Randall Childres, Charlie Baker and Pete McKnight.

If desired, in lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to the American Lung Association of Texas, 7616 LBJ Freeway, Suite 100, Dallas, Texas 75251-1182 or the Restland Cemetery at Cunningham, c/o Neva Oats, P. O. Box 186, Cunningham, Texas 75434.
