Anne Louise Stites, 88, of Pecatonica, IL died at 8:30 PM, Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Presence St. Ann Care Center after a short illness.

Born July 20, 1928 in Rockford, IL, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin L. and Mildred (nee Peterson) Goodwill. She lived her entire life in the Pecatonica area, graduated from Pecatonica High School, and married Arthur J. Stites in Pecatonica, IL on December 19, 1959.

She was employed as a mail sorter for the United States Postal Service and as a clerk for Hack’s Auction & Realty, Inc. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, was active with United Methodist Church women’s groups,she was affiliated with the Tebala Shriners Club of Rockford and was a contributor to Pecatonica Historical Society. She played the piano in the key of “F” only, was a tap dancer in her youth and a collector of everything “frog” or “monkey”.

She was the matriarch of both the Goodwill and the Stites families. She was the loving and proud mother of son Kevin Stites, of New York, NY; grandchildren Ryan (Kelly) Stites, of Mundelein, IL and Erin (Joseph) Vance, of Barrington, IL; great granddaughters Sarah and Emily Vance and was a mother-like influence to her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Fredrick Goodwill and sisters Jean Crull and Mary Newburg.

Funeral Liturgy will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 8, 2017 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 126 West Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL with Msgr. Robert Sweeney of St. Mary Catholic Church, Pecatonica and Reverend Nord Swanstrom of First Lutheran Church, Pecatonica, co-officiating.

Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Countryman Chapel, 529 Washington St, Pecatonica, IL from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM, Friday, April 7. Committal service will be held following the funeral liturgy at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Pecatonica, IL with Pastor Katie Voigt of Pecatonica United Methodist Church assisting.

Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Tebala Shriners Club of Rockford, 7910 Newburg Road, Rockford, IL 61108.
