Mr. Robert Gainer Lamar, 65, of Hawkinsville, Ga. passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at his residence. A memorial celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Hawkinsville First Baptist church with Dr. Don McClung, Rev. Dr. Gary Abbott and G.A. Malone officiating.

A native of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Bob was born on August 28, 1951, the second child of John G. Lamar and Carol A. Lamar. Much of his childhood was spent in the company of his Grandmother and two of her "Old Maid" sisters. They were retired but always busy with projects and by helping them he learned many skills that served him well for the rest of his life. Summers were split between baseball, fishing and the family's natural spring swimming hole and camp house where he worked, and played such games as rag tag, fox and geese, rummy, setback, scrabble and ping pong with them and a multitude of other Great Aunts and cousins.

As a youth, Bob learned to hunt, fish and play golf. He spent many enjoyable hours pursuing these activities for the rest of his days. Baptized at The First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville in 1963, Bob often said he fortified his religion in the turkey woods, especially at daylight, and on the flats of the gulf coast. He often marveled at God's glory when in these outdoor settings.

Bob graduated from Hawkinsville High Schoool in 1969, Middle Georgia College in 1971, and the University of Georgia in 1975, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. He partnered with his two best friends, his Mother and Father, in early 1976 to co-found Lamar Pecan Company. Even though Bob was involved in may other businesses, Lamar Pecan Co. is the one that stirred his passion.

Bob is survived by his wife and love of his life, Connie P. Lamar; his two children, Robert Gainer Lamar, Jr. (Rachel) of Hawkinsville, Ga., Sarah L. Tallent (Trent) of Durham, N.C.; sister, Beth L. Monfort (Sonny) of Kennesaw, Ga; neice, Tracie Monfort of Charlotte, N.C.; Connie's children, Ben Eckles of Atlanta, Ga., Chandler Eckles, Grant (Erin) Eckles, Laney (Fain) Griffin, Merritt Eckles, all of Hawkinsville, GA, and a host of Grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 25, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawkinsville/Pulaski County Recreation Department or the church of your choice.
