He was an avid bowler and loved water skiing and country music. Vernon was gifted with a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.
He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a double major in chemistry and biology.
There was a deep love for his wife of 55 years, daughter, son, son-in-law and grandsons, and he never missed any of his grandsons' sporting events. He loved vacationing with his family and friends.
He retired after 20 years of service as a state inspector for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. For many years he owned and operated Vernon Canary Wholesale Meat and was known as "The Meat Man."
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson Canary of Bowling Green; a son, Jett Reed Canary of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandsons, Zack Stahl and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, of Smiths Grove, and Caleb Stahl of Bowling Green; a son-in-law, Greg Stahl of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Twana Jean Canary Stahl; a sister, Lee Garrett; and a brother, L.D. Canary.
