In 1938, Pastor Selle was installed at his first parish — St. John's Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake (Beecher), IL. In 1947 he accepted a call to Salem Lutheran Church in Blue Island, IL, and then in 1952 went to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, WI, where he served for 10 years. In 1962, he went to Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, NY, and then, in 1964, to St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon, WI. Beginning in 1973, he began pastoring the dual parish of Emmaus Lutheran Church of Poy Sippi and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mount Morris. After 10 years, at age 70, he retired from Emmaus, but continued in active ministry at Immanuel until 1993.
In addition to being one of the finest example of Christ's teachings, Pastor Selle was on the Board of Directors of both the Eastern and South Wisconsin Districts of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He was both district and zone counselor for the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), and a zone counselor for the Lutheran Laymen's League (LLL). He served on the board of Lutheran Child and Family Services (LCFS), was twice a synodical delegate, served multiple Preaching-Teaching-Reaching ministries, was a frequent vacancy pastor at neighboring congregations, and was a pastoral counselor in two different circuits.
Following his retirement as a Servant of the Lord, he lived for many years at "Hickory Acres" in rural Poy Sippi, where he enjoyed raising sheep, bird-watching, and gardening. In his daily devotions, he would regularly pray "around the world" for the mission outreach of Christ's Church.
Survivors include 3 sons: Rev. Karl R. Selle, Rev. Robert Selle, Poy Sippi, and Rev. John Selle, and 3 daughters: Jean Penshorn, Ann McClure and Ruth Rodaks. He was delighted to follow the activities and careers of his 21 grandchildren, and felt blessed that God also granted him 11 great-grandchildren. Pastor Selle is survived by one sister, Mildred Seefeld, among other relatives, and many dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife & companion, LaVerne, who passed this Earthly veil on September 5, 1995, his parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
The Funeral Service for Pastor Selle was held on Friday, December 15th at Emmaus Lutheran Church, in Poy Sippi. The Officiant was Pastor Frederick Mueller, and Dr. Ronald Meyer was the Proclaimer. Following the Divine Service, interment took place in the Brushville Cemetery, Town of Bloomfield.

I was in Pastor's first Confirmation Class at Emmaus in 1973. Despite the fact that our Class was probably the rowdiest & rebellious Confirmation Class Emmaus had ever seen, I don't remember him ever losing his temper like a couple of other Pastor's did at us during the Pastoral vacancy at Emmaus. Of all the Pastors I've met, or even people in general, outside of my own Dad, he was a true example & teacher of Christ, a Man of God. I will miss him.
