David Bushnell (1786-1872) m. 1810 Tirza Hitchcock (1795-1890)

Capt. Bushnell was captain of sea craft during his earlier years, and after settling in Susquehanna county followed farming. He died April 5, 1872, at the advanced age of eighty-six years, his wife in September, 1890, at the age of ninety-five; their remains rest in Bunnell's cemetery. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, in which he held the office of deacon for many years.
Capt. David and Tirza (Hitchcock) Bushnell, were natives of Saybrook, Conn. and Greene county, N.Y., respectively. The parents of David Bushnell were Ezra and Patience (Lord) Bushnell, of Connecticut, where he died, and she subsequently came to Susquehanna county to pass the remainder of her days with her son. The father of his wife, Lemuel Hitchcock, a Revolutionary soldier, was originally a resident of Connecticut, removing thence to Greene county, New York.

5. Lemuel Hitchcock, b. Bridgewater, Penn., Feb. 24, 1828; m. Anna Eliza Smith, b. Elk Point, Penn. Jan. 7, 1839, d. Springville, Penn. Apr. 12, 1912, dau. of Justice and Maria Smith.
6. Perry Commodore, b. Bridgewater, Penn., Mar. 7, 1831, d. Auburn Four Corners, Penn. Feb. 23, 1914, m. Pauline Carlin, b. Dimock, Penn. Sept. 25, 1848, dau. of Asa and Mary (Gilson) Carlin. He was a merchant in Montrose, Penn. for 43 years.
7. Phoebe Ann, b. Bridgewater, Penn., May 6, 1833, married Elijah L. Adams, b. Aug. 4, 1824, son of Chester and Susan (Sherwood) Adams.
8. Harriet Tirza, married Henry D. Ross, a farmer of Auburn township;
9. Julia Gates, married Abel Arnold, a farmer of Bradford county, Penn.

EZRA BUSHNELL, son of Nehemiah and Sarah (Ingham) Bushnell, born June 29, 1746, Westbrook, Connecticut, died there February 16, 1786, married January 2, 1777, Patience Lord, baptized September 8, 1754, died March 19, 1830. His brother, David (1740-1826), inventor of the submarine vessel and the screw propellor, is considered the "Father of Submarine Warfare".
