51 years old, a coalminer employed at Clovelly Mine, Terre Haute, IN was instantly killed when an engine & caboose on the Pennsylvania Lines backed into him at the crossing of 4th Street, Rhyan's ambulance was called & he was taken to the morgue. Mrs. Mary DeMoss said her husband had just left the house on his way to the barbershop when the accident happened. Bicyclemen Casey & Bowsher, who were called to the place, said that Mrs. DeMoss was running to the crossing crying that she knew that it was her husband that had been killed.
Watchman Lovell said that the gates were down & that all lawful precautions had been taken. Conductor J. F. Means, Engineer Paul Allen & Fireman C.P. Kints, were in charge of the train.
DeMoss is survived by the widow and six children. The body will be taken Monday to Bicknell for burial.
