Excitement reigned as the June term of Grant Circuit Court opened Monday when Barnette Franks, 68, of Mt. Zion, collapsed from an apparent heart attack and died about 8:45am. Only Circuit Judge James R. Ford and Jailer Biggie Billiter was present in the courtroom, in preparation for convening court at 9am when Mr. Franks walked up to speak to the judge. As he said, Judge I........", without completing a sentence, fell backward on the courtroom floor. An ambulance was summoned immediately and Mr. Franks' body was whisked away to Grant County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Mr. Franks was a retired electrician and a member of the Dry Ridge Christian Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Anna D. Franks; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Workman of Dry Ridge, Mrs. Juanita Jones of Ft. Thomas, and Mrs. Phyllis Scott of Mt. Zion; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Haggis of Dry Ridge; two brothers, W. C. Franks of Elliston, and R. E. Franks of Valparaiso, Indiana, and five grandchildren. The body was taken to Eckler Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
