Cal's mother, Elaine, passed away about 1:55 a.m. this morning from complications of a stroke she suffered on June 23rd. Cal, Rose Ann, Krista, Sandy and Arnie were with her. She was comfortable and peaceful. Here is the obituary.
Florence Elaine Kuehne, age 88, of 4422 Just Court in Manitowoc, died on Friday, July 10, 2009 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehab Center due to complications from a stroke. She was surrounded by family at the time of her death.
Elaine was born at home on February 16, 1921 in Springfield, South Dakota to Arnold and Florence (Crosley) Breitenbach. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Springfield, South Dakota with the Class of 1937 at the age of 16.
Elaine married Raymond Kuehne on September 20, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. During WWII while Ray was fighting the war in Europe, Elaine was a “Rosie the Riveter” at the shipyards in Manitowoc and Sturgeon Bay. Elaine rode her own Indian motorcycle in the 1940’s while she and Ray were members of the Clipper City Motorcycle Club in Manitowoc. She and Ray were foster parents to 33 children in Manitowoc County.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Rose Ann Kuehne of Manitowoc; grandchildren Krista (Tim) Jones of Denton, Texas and Kyle (Dawn) Kuehne of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin; Great-grandchildren Jackson, Jillian and Jensen Jones of Denton, Texas and Klohie, Keegen and Kameron Kuehne of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. She is further survived by her sister Lois (Eldon) Johns of Lake Suzy, Florida, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1998; a brother, Hugh Breitenbach in 1983 and a sister, Hilda (Breitenbach) Enright in 2009.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2601 South 10th Street in Manitowoc from 10:00 a.m. on Monday until time of service at 11:00. Rev. Brian Staude will officiate. Cremation will follow at a later date with interment at Knollwood Memorial Park.
