Son of William and Mary (Danforth) Ryle, aged 36 years.

Charles Ryle legally changed his surname to Danforth at the age of 18. Charles Danforth had no surviving male heirs, and asked that one of his grandsons assume the surname Danforth to preserve the family lineage.

Charles Ryle Danforth was married to Claudia Greppo, daughter of Claude Greppo. The Danforths had three children: Charles Jr., Claudia and Marion.

A graduate of Princeton University, Charles Ryle Danforth died in Athens while spending the Winter season in Greece with his family.
