Sioux City - Bette Dobyns of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christy–Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Bette was born in February 1927 in Sioux City, the daughter of Carroll and Anna (Lang) Jandt. She grew up in Sioux City, where she attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School. She attended Morningside College, graduating with a degree in education.
In 1949 she married Charles Dobyns Jr. They had two daughters, Susan and Nancy. The family lived in Sioux City, with the exception of 1958 to 1961, when they lived in Battle Creek, Mich.
She was active in Sioux City Women's Club, Shrine Widows, Eastern Star and Rose Croix.
Bette was devoted to her family and enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening and finding pleasure in the wonders of nature.
Survivors include her two daughters, Susan of Tucson, Ariz., and Nancy of Sioux City; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a brother, Richard Jandt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Siouxland Humane Society or the Shriners' Dads.
