He was a graduate of Seattle Preparatory ('51) and Seattle University ('55). He was commissioned a 2LT in the US Army through ROTC and later earned an MBA from Syracuse University. He served numerous tours overseas including Korea, West Germany and 2 assignments in Vietnam, including commanding the 79th Maintenance Battalion. He served 27 years in the Army as an Ordnance officer, retiring at the rank of Major General in 1982, and was subsequently inducted into the US Army Ordnance Hall of Fame.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Roddy and Marjory McRae Roddy. He was survived by his wife of 63 years; his four children; his brother; and four grandchildren.
A funeral with full military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
