John Webb Nance, was born in Rockingham, North Carolina, May 15, 1814. His boyhood was passed away in Tennessee. He was a carpenter by trade. John Webb Nance moved from Tennessee to Missouri, in April 1845, in Stoddard, County. Then he went to Greenbush, Illinois which is in Warren County, Illinois in April 27,1845. On April 27, 1857, he moved his family five miles northeast of the village of Greenbush, where he purchased a one hundred acres farm on which he resided until 1878. He then removed to Abingdon, Illinois. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, was originally a Whig, but since 1856 he has been a democrat. He became a Mason in 1850. He lived past the age of ninety something. He was married three times. (1) was Nancy Simmons, (2) was Harriet E. Brooks, (3) Mrs. Mary (Lucas) Crawford. In 1850, he went with Dr. Bailey Ragon to Monmouth, Illinois, and joined the Masonic fraternity, Lodge # 37, A.F. & A. M. He then belong to Abingdon Lodge. He has always borne the name of an honest, upright citizen, to which he justly entitled. John Webb Nance is buried in Avon Cemetery in Fulton County, Illinois. John Webb Nance died on December 26, 1905 in Abingdon, Illinois.
