Hazel L. Gray Alfs, 90, of New Canton, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born Sept. 21, 1908 in rural Hull, a daughter of Harry B. and Jessie (Gudgel) Lewton. She first married David B. Gray in Feb. 1928. He preceded her in death in Sept. 1955. Later she married Robert E. Alfs in Jan. 1967. He preceded her in death in Jan. 1992.
Survivors include 2 sons, David W. Gray of Lewisburg, Pa., and Robert L. Gray of Elk Grove, Calif,; 2 stepdaughters, Martha Madarasz of New Canton and Johanna Bruns of Winchester; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 sister, Mabel Fleer and Florence Hampsmire and 2 stepsons, Archie B. Gray and Charles R. Gray.
Mrs. Gray was a 50 year plus member of the Order of Eastern Star. She attended New Canton United Methodist Church and was a partner in D.B. Gray Co., of Hull for many years.
Visitation is Friday, Feb. 12 from 6-8 p.m. in New Canton United Methodist Church.
Burial is at Kinderhook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to New Canton United Methodist Church or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
