Alexandria SD- Funeral services for Melvin Leroy Olsen, whose death occurred Monday, will be held at the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Olsen was born July 27, 1896 near Dell Rapids and was married to Fern Olsen, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Folsom of Alexandria SD on Aug. 1, 1928. He attended school in Dell Rapids, Sioux Falls College and was graduated by University of Chicago, did graduate work at Columbia University and received his masters degree at the University of South Dakota. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and Oriental Consistory.
From 1922 - 1946, Mr. Olsen was head of the P.S at Alexandria- except for a 9 year venture in the grocery business at Canton, SD. In 1946, he became state psychologist and was in that field of work until his final illness.
Survivors are his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Janet Prouty, Gayle and Carol, all of Alexandria; his mother, Mrs. Chris Olsen of Dell Rapids ; one sister Mrs. C.E. Graves also of Dell Rapids and five brothers , J. Victor of Trent SD, Edgar O, Elmer E, Frances R of Sioux Falls and Silas S of Sioux City.
