Leola Faye (Norris) Deatherage, daughter of Walter and Eva Leona Norris, was born in Randall, Kansas, the third of seven children. Leola moved with her family to Kimberly, Idaho, in 1921.

Leola graduated from Kimberly High School in Idaho and Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. During her nursing training she interned at the Mayo Clinic. During World War 2, she dutifully served her country in the Army as a Second Lieutenant stationed in England. There, she helped tend those first wounded from Omaha Beach on D-Day.

She met James Wallace Deatherage on a troop train before being deployed to England, and she married him in Chard, England on November 28, 1944. Following the War, they began a family and lived in California and Oregon before purchasing a farm near Castleford, Idaho, in 1951.

Leola and James raised five children and hosted many more grandchildren (19) and great-grandchildren (18). Leola worked for nearly 20 years as a nurse at Harral's Nursing Home in Buhl, Idaho

Though busy with children and work Leola still found time to cultivate a large garden and orchard and to paint beautiful landscapes. Later, in her eighties, she added woodworking to her hobbies. She was an avid reader and spent much time reading her Bible, history (especially about World War 2) and biographies.

Her life was a living testimony of the love of Christ, characterized by care and service to those around her, especially toward her loved ones. Though we mourned the loss of Leola we rejoice in knowing she has been reconciled to God by faith in the Person and redeeming work of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Leola is the mother of:
James W. Deatherage
Carol Deatherage Wilson
Judy Deatherage Stewart Watkins
Don A. Deatherage
John T. Deatherage

Memorial maintained by Leola's granddaughter.
