Nellie Eva Shelton was the sixth of eight children born to Eliza Jane Waltz and John Caldwin Shelton. She lived all of her younger life in the Marshalltown area.

On 7 Feb 1917 in Marshalltown, Iowa she joined Robert Lee Boswell for 44 years of marriage until his death. They produced two sons; Robert Franklin and William Fredrick. Eventually Robert followed work in 1944 to Kansas City where they resided until his death in 1961. Nellie stayed in Kansas until 1980 then moved to Stover, Missouri where she resided until her death. She was a clerk for the Emery, Bird, Thayer department store for 15 years until she retired. She was also a member of the Community Christian Church of Kansas City.

Upon her passing Nellie left behind a sister, Lela Wilde, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She joined her parents, her husband, and five siblings in eternal rest. As per her request, she was cremated with interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
