James "Jim" Weldon Donnell, 69, of Madill, Okla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 in the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, Okla. He was born on Aug. 31, 1939 in Houston, Texas to the late James Granville Donnell and Minnie Ozella Cronenberger.


He was raised in the Houston area and later joined the United States Army where he served for 9 years during the Vietnam War. Jim traveled and worked in 32 different countries worldwide. He met Pam Berninger in 1981, and they were married Dec. 2, 2005 in Madill. In 1989 they moved to Cumberland where they lived until 1997 when they moved to Madill. Jim was a Shriner, 32 degree Mason and a member of the VFW Post #2412. Jim was a great spectator of sports, loved history, fishing, riding motorcycles and telling unbelievable yet true stories of his life experience.


Jim is survived by his wife, Pam Berninger, Madill, Okla.; children, LaDawn Oillis, Alma, Okla., Billie Berninger, Madill, Okla., Michelle Jorstad, Layton, Utah, James Chance Donnell, Houston, Texas, Casey Donnell, Houston, Texas and Hunter Donnell Berninger, Madill, Okla.; grandchildren, Karley Koestler, Chase Weldon Berry, Lawren Koestler, Peyton Donnell, Claire Donnell, James Donnell and Julia Donnell; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Shae Berninger and Layhanna Yaley Berry; brother, Patrick Donnell, Conroe, Texas; sisters, Donna Perry, Houston, Texas and Robin Perry, Madisonville, Texas; several nieces and nephews.


James was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, B.J. Roberts.


Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.


Visitation will start at 11 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Thursday with a family hour Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home in Madill.


Family and friends of Jim's will be gathering at his home for a shared celebration of his life Thursday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m.
