He was born November 8, 1935, in Kell, Illinois, to Billie and Audrey Littrel Alvis. He married Diana G. Reiter on November 23, 1968, in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, Diana Alvis, one son, Terry (Allison) Alvis, three daughters, Patricia Davee, Donna Alvis and Brenda Alvis, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, six brothers, Billie Joe (Jean) Alvis,David (Mary) Alvis, Wayne ( Linda) Alvis, Don (Johnadine) Alvis, Gary Alvis and Butch (Carla) Alvis and one sister, Sally (Bill) Wallace.
He was preceded in death by one son, Danny, one infant son, Billie and two brothers.
James previously drilled oil wells throughout the United States and Canada for 20 years. He then worked for General Telephone for 27 years as a cable splicer, retiring in 1991. He currently owned and operated Village Tap and Village Car Wash, both in Deer Creek, Illinois and the Deer Creek Self Storage.
