She spent her whole married life watching and caring for six kids while her husband pursued a career as a semi-professional baseball player, after his death in 1965, and all her children were grown, she spent the rest of her life in the various households in West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and Texas, looking after various grandchildren. Her passions were knitting, quilt works, keeping her pet cat, and watching her favorite shows like "Little House on the Prairie & The Waltons."

She passed away 26 Apr 1984, in Cleburne, Texas after a short stay at a local nursing home, her daughter Joan was present at the time.

She was cremated in Ft. Worth, Texas, her ashes were later misplaced.

A granite memorial was placed with her husband's and parents at Mountain View Cemetery, May 2017.
