Funeral Services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Cuba City, Wis. Rev. Scott Crandall officiated. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cuba City, Wis.
Iola was born October 31, 1907, in Cuba City, Wis., daughter of Everett and Bertis (Kay) Stephens. She was a graduate of Cuba City High School and Platteville Normal School. She taught in Muscoda and Superior, Wis. for several years prior to marrying John (Jack) Harker on January 20, 1937. They farmed in the Shullsburg, Belmont, and Jenkynsville area until 1975, when they retired to South Splinter Street in Cuba City. He died November 10, 1988. Iola has been a life-long, active member of the Cuba City Methodist Church and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star of Shullsburg, Wis. Iola was an avid gardener, seamstress, quilter and loved long term substitute teaching in the Cuba City area.
Surviving are her children and their families: Frances and Harold Beckman, Manitowoc and their sons, Thomas (Kristin Kilkenny) and Andrew, Jane Harker, West Bend, James and Michelle Harker, Cheyenne, Wyo. and their children, Jayson (Wendy) and Kelly (David), and Robert and Ruth Harker, Sheboygan and her son, Kurt (Cheryl Barrett) Kaiser and four great grandchildren, Katie and Charlie Beckman and Christian and Carson Kaiser. She is also survived by two sisters, Bertha Bluthe, Galena, Ill. and Mary Dalrymple, Madison; two brothers, George (Hannah) Stephens and John (Violette) Stephens, Cuba city and sister-in-law, Virginia Stephens, California, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ruth Whitman and Florence Reynolds and one brother, James Stephens.
Memorials may be made to the Cuba City Methodist Church or charity of donors choice.
