FRANK J. GASNER KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT TUESDAY

Frank J. Gasner, 63, well-known New Ulm businessman, was killed 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in a two-car collision 7 miles south of New Ulm.

He was alone in a 1979 Buick traveling west on Brown County Highway 25. The other car,a 1969 Chevrolet station wagon, driven by Mrs. Donald Solberg, 28, of 1821 Willow Road, New Ulm.

Mrs. Solberg is in fair condition at Loretto Hospital with multiple lacerations and bruises.

Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is arranging services for Gasner, who lived on Route 2, on Highway 15 just south of New Ulm.

One of Gasner's business enterprises was selling used cars under the name of "Gasner Service and Supplies, 1217 N. Broadway."

It was apparently this business that took him south of New Ulm on his fatal ride. He had just acquired the Buick, filled it with gasoline and was road testing it. He was understood to be enroute to a farm to show it to a possible buyer.

Gasber also operated "Gasner Steel and Fabricating, 85 5th N.

He owned considerable property in New Ulm, including the buildings now occupied by Madsen Super Valu and the Osborne Plumbing.

Gasner was born in New Ulm Aug. 10, 1910, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gasner. He went to work as a youth for Frank (Shep) Schaefer who ran a steel metal shop.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel, and children, Mrs. Vern Jueneberg of Shakopee, James of Wayzata, John, Joe and Charles, at home, sisters, Mrs. Roman Dorn and Ann Gasner of New Ulm, Mrs. John Otterstad and Mrs. Harvey Lange of St. Paul.

Gasner was elected city councilman from the first ward in 1942 and served until he was defeated in 1945 by Dale Carrier.

Carl Knopke, Chevrolet dealer, said today, "one of the Horatio Alger men have died. He was one of the great independent businessmen, one of the most honorable men in business. He drove a sharp bargain, but his word was to be trusted.
