Robert W. Struthers, 60, of Hospers, died unexpectedly Thursday Apr 8, 1993, at the Orange City Hospital. Services will be 1030 am Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Hospers, with the Rev. Kevin M. Richter officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Reuters Post 0423. Visitation will be after 3 pm Sunday with a parish rosary at 4pm and Vigil at 730 pm. all at the church. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen is handling arrangements. Mr. Struthers was born Apr 14, 1932 in Rolfe, IA and grew up and attended school in the area.. He graduated from Des Moines Township High School near Rolfe in 1950. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954, and married Elmira Schott Jun 20, 1956 at Pocahontas, Iowa. He then worked for Climax Seed and Feed Co, and later Beckords Hatchery at Rolfe. On Aug 29 1966 he became a federal meat inspector. He retired Jan 2, 1993. They lived at Hospers since 1968. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Reuters Post 0423, American Legion; and ad a past commander and adjutant of the Cecil Cummings American Legion Post at Rolfe. Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Michael W. and Tamra of Spirit Lake; two daughters and their husbands: Joan and Christopher Mansfield of Sioux City, and Julie and John Riedy of Sergeant Bluff; four grandchildren: Cassandra and Thomas Struthers, Joseph Mansfield, and Emily Riedy; two sisters: Mrs. Jesse (Wilma) Cummings of Perry, GA, and Mrs. Arnold (Lucile) struthers of Adams, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mrs. John (Anna Mae ) McCoy. Pallbearers will be George Struthers, Ken Schott, BOb Feekes, DIck Gettler, Cornie Roskam and Marv Sturling.
