George was born on 9/6/1908 in St. Louis, Missouri to George Orth Keyser and Grace Nye Barlow. His father died on 9/2/1908 of typhoid. He and his sister lived with their grandparents from 1909-1913 in Mt. Sterling. His mother married Chas. B. Hohmann in 1912. He lived with his mother & step-father in St. Louis. Went to school 5 years, graduating in 1926. Moved to Chicago in 1926 and enrolled in the University of Chicago, graduating in 1930 at the beginning of the Depression. Odd jobs were the only thing available. He was sent to Arkansas City, Kansas by Montgomery Ward as a store manager trainee in 1933. He married Mary Zavisza in 1933. Then he was transferred to Salina, Kansas. Elizabeth Laura was born in 1935. He was fired as store manager a month later. They returned to Chicago and lived with folks 5 months. Got a job as an office worker, later office manager, later salesman with Arkell Safety.
George was called into the Army July 1941 as 1st Lt. of Artillery. He was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. In December 1941, transferred to Army Air Corps, Belleville, IL. In March 1942, transferred to Boca Raton, FL and took family. Promoted regularly to Lt. Col., with 15,000 troops. Left the Army in 1946.
Returned to Chicago & Arkell. Made National Sales Manager. Left Arkell in 1959 and became Sales Rep - much better income. Continued until 80th birthday.

He was born Sept. 6, 1908, in St. Louis, Mo., to George O. and Grace (Barlow) Keyser.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; a daughter, Carol (James) Matthys; a stepson, Charles (Rosemary) Caldwell; six grandchildren; and three step-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Zavisza Keyser; and two daughters, Elizabeth Garrison and Jean Breen.
