Armand Joseph Cadieux, age 68, of New Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, in his home. Born in Swanton, VT on May 5, 1936.
Armand Joseph was the son of the late Leopold and Annette Cadieux.
Educated by French-Canadian nuns, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force upon graduating high school.
He served his country in the Air Force for 22 years, serving in the Korean War, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, Vietnam and various stateside bases before retiring as a Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the Air Force, Armand Joseph started a family-owned business with his wife, the former Josephine Ann Arcuri of Utica. His son, Anthony, currently manages the family business, Barrier Window Systems Inc., which has been in operation for 28 years. He was especially proud to know that the business could thrive in his son's hands after he retired and spent his first winter in his new home in Florida. Armand Joseph was a generous, hard-working, loving and dependable man who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was a self-taught student of economics, politics, and history. One of his favorite quotes, attributed to Henry David Thoreau was, "To know that we know what we know, and that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge." Armand Joseph enjoyed international travel and confidently spoke in the native tongues of many of the countries he visited. His command of American English was so fluent that most who knew him did not realize that his first language was French-Canadian. Armand Joseph was a very active, hands-on grandparent and was very proud of all his grandchildren's academic and athletic accomplishments. He enjoyed frequent vacations around the country and world with his grandchildren and could always be counted upon to escort them to their various practices and meets. He was truly looking forward to accompanying his oldest grandson, Anthony, to a series of hockey competitions in the Boston area next week because they were to be held in the same rinks where he brought his son 25 years before. It is certain that he will help guide his granddaughter, Margaux, from above as she makes her First Communion this Saturday.
Armand Joseph was a Republican Committeeman and National Committeeman and was proud to have attended the Republican National Committee in 1996 and to have had the opportunities to have his picture taken with Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich.
He was also a Shriner, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Forty and Eight, the Armed Forces Society, and the Association des Cadieux d'Amerique. Additionally, he was proud to have attained his pilot's license in 1997.
Both of his parents; and his brothers, Bernard and Norman; and sisters, Pauline and Jeanette, all predeceased him.
Armand Joseph is survived by his wife of forty years, the former Josephine Ann (JoAnn) Arcuri of Utica; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Marion Cadieux of New Hartford; and their five children, Anthony II, Gabrielle, Katherine, Margaux and Armand II; and his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Richard Roberts of New Hartford, and their two children, Sophia and Joseph; his brother, Maurice of Florida; his sister, Aurora and her husband, Larry Vosburgh of Florida; his brother, John and his wife, Wanda, of Florida; his mother-in-law, Mary Arcuri of Utica; dear aunts, Bea LaPorte and Anne LaPorte of Utica; sister-in-law, Patricia and her husband, William Turczyn of Utica; sister-in-law, Barbara Arcuri of Utica; sisters-in-law, Betty and Goldie Cadieux of Vermont; and many, many nieces and nephews and cousins here in the United States, Canada and France.
Entombment with military honors will take place in the Family Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery. Utica Observer Dispatch, April 29, 2004

Note: He was interred in Forest Hill Cemetery, not in Calvary Cemetery as stated in the obituary.
