Lillian Yates (Lelak), died peacefully at home on March 30, 2016. She was born to the late George and Ann Lelak in Whiting, Indiana. Lillian is survived by her three children Rob Buksar (Gracie); Cindy Hall and Lori Buksar, granddaughter Jennifer Buksar and brother, George Lelak (Pauline). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 12:00 noon at St. Nicholas Byzantine Church, Rev. Steven Koplinka officiating; burial St. Nicholas Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Lillian very proudly graduated from Whiting High School as well as business and secretarial school. She was a huge advocate for the City of Whiting and never missed a July 4th parade, Summer Symphony and many other activities well into her late 80s. She sang professionally for many years and took pride in her favorite rendering of "Ave Maria." She worked for various government agencies including the Veterans Administration, Social Security and the U.S. Treasury in Chicago and San Francisco. She retired from Methodist Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Whiting and long-time member of St. Nicholas Church in Munster, being part of both choirs and women's guild. She volunteered for many organizations including the Girl Scouts. She loved to be social and was a great friend to many. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society Calumet Area or a charity of choice.
