Val P. Lowers, 81, of Allegheny Township, died 4:19 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison.
He was born April 5, 1921, in Freeport.
He served with in the Army Air Force with the 8th Air Force 303 Bomb Group (H) Combat Team in England. He was also an airplane mechanic.
Mr. Lowers was a mechanic at Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, retiring in 1982 after 42 years.
He attended Allegheny Presbyterian Church and was a life member of the Allegheny Township Fire Department #1.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Laura Klingensmith Lowers; two sons, Val D. (Dorothy) Lowers Sr. of Allegheny Township and Phil Lowers of Corona, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Sally (Tom) Thomas of South Buffalo Township; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Lowers of Ford City; and two sisters, Mrs. Beverly (Jack) Bowser of Freeport and Monagene Brubaker of Allegheny Township.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Val D. Lowers Jr. in 1991; parents, George B. and Goldie Duetschel Lowers; and three brothers, Burton, Robert and George Lowers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. Wednesday in REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, INC., 524 High St., Freeport. His pastor, the Rev. Michael Wilson, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookland Cemetery, Allegheny Township.
