Donnie (pronounced "DOAN-ee" according to her niece Gwen) was the tenth of eleven children born to Joseph Thomas McGuire and Mary Elizabeth Smith McGuire of Carroll County, GA. She was only two and a half years old when she and her mother contracted the measles during the winter of 1914. The little girl died less than a week after her mother's death. She was buried at the foot of her mother's grave.
