Anthony J. "Tony" Borgognoni, age 75 of Elmira, New York, died at home on Sunday, March 23, 2003. Tony was born in Canastota, NY on September 6, 1926, son of Joseph and Amelia Vignoli Borgognoni. He is Survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Katherine Sorrentino Borgognoni; daughters, Patricia Catchpole with husband Thomas of East Berne, NY; Kathy Ayres of Sterling Heights, MI and Margaret Geise of Carlisle PA; four grandchildren; brothers, Msgr. Charles Borgognoni of Syracuse, NY and Eugene Borgognoni of Leesburg FL. Friends are invited to Mcinerny Funeral Home, Elmira, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at 10:15 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Church, Elmira. Full military honors will be accorded outside the church after the funeral mass. Tony graduated from Canastota High School and then received a Bachelor of Science degree from Oswego State University, a Masters degree in Education from Syracuse University and a Doctorate in Education from Walden University. He served his country during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with the Army Air Corps. Tony began his career in education as a teacher in the Spring Valley NY School District. After moving to Solvay NY he taught for several years before becoming an administrator. He was Superintendent for the Solvay School District and the Frankfort-Schuyler School District and retired as Superintendent of the Elmira Heights School District. After his retirement Tony was President of Brady Supply in Elmira. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #901 and a former member of the Elmira Heights Rotary. Donations in Tony's memory may be directed to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.
