Second Fracture of Hip Fatal to Mrs. Sarah Backus
Her strength and vitality expended recovering from a fractured hip bone, which occurred last March, Mrs. Sarah Ann Backus of North Church street, was unable to recover from a second fracture of the hip, which took place in July and she succumbed at the Jones Memorial Hospital, yesterday.
Mrs. Backus had about recovered from the effects of the first fall and had returned to her home when the second accident occurred.
Deceased was a native of the state of Indiana, where she was born February 17, 1855, making her age 73 years. She is survived by a husband, Charles Backus.
She had been a resident of California for the past 25 years, all of which with the exception of two years had been spent in this city. During her residence in this community, she had become affiliated with Olympic Temple, Pythian Sisters, who will be in charge of the funeral services.
Services will be held at the chapel of the W. R. Jefford and Son funeral parlors 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon with O. H. Fuller, local minister, officiating. Interment will be made at Greenwood cemetery.
