Adam Simpson was born in Ballysadare, Sligo, Ireland. He went to Ontario, Canada, in the 1850's, and then he returned to Ireland in 1858 to marry Harriet E. Farrell 16 Aug 1858 in Killoram, Sligo, Ireland. On the return trip home on the ship record, they are listed as Mr. and Mrs. Simpson. They moved to Webster City, Hamilton, Iowa, in 1873; Moved to Duncombe, Webster, Iowa, in 1900. Their 14 children include:
Adam Farrell Simpson, Emma L. Simpson-Shick, Jennie Simpson-Black, George, Medoph William, Maria C., John, Maud, Edith Susan, Albert, Charles Trevor, Edward Arthur, Walter Stewart, and Harriett.

On the marriage certificate, Adam's father name is written as being Adam Simpson (this is not correct) and Adam probably wrote his own name in the blank, or his uncle's, who was in Ireland and attending his nephew's wedding. The bride's father was not named on the marriage document. On Adam's death certificate his father's name is George, whom we find also immigrated to Canada. Upon researching wills in LDS Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2011, "Adam's Uncle Adam Simpson's will was found, and his Uncle for whom he was probably named was a naval surgeon, and was not married nor did he have any children, and therefore he willed his property in Sligo, Ireland to brothers and nephews.
