Helen Ann (Torchen) DeMao, 78, of Lower Burrell, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at her home. She was born on Jan. 8, 1938, in Creighton, a daughter of Charles and Helen Torchen. Helen Ann was a devout Catholic and a long time parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Lower Burrell. She was a devoted wife of Joseph F. DeMao and devoted mother to Kenneth DeMao (Sherry), of Lower Burrell, and Deborah Stewart (Claude), of Pittsburgh. She enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, crocheting, reading and numerous friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Torchen; and sister, Josephine Torchen Kuzma. Helen is survived by her husband; children; five grandchildren, Mallory Whitlinger (James), Alyson Shirey (Roy), Carly DeMao, and Joseph and Alaina Stewart; seven great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road (at Alder Street), where prayers of transfer will be said from 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Christian funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.
