The cemetery predates the church and had the first burial in 1820, according to H. A. Norris. The story is that a family was moving west and were following an Indian trail that passed Thomas Dillard's house. The weather was so severe that the family stopped for shelter at the Dillard house. While they were there, their small child died and was buried on the Dillard property. Mr. H. A. Morris has erected a marker to that effect at the end of Row 1.
