Northampton, Aug 31 – Mrs. Alice Barnes, widow of Wellington W Barnes, of 58 Middle Street, Florence, died last night at her home after a long illness. She was born in Whately, daughter of the late William and Caroline (Demick) Rhood, and had resided in this city most of her life. She was a member of Edwards Congregational Church, a past president of the church Aloha Guild, a member of Betty Allen Chapter, DAR, and a former member of the board of directors of the Visiting Nurses Association. She leaves a niece, Miss Lois Barnes, at home.
Funeral will be at the R D Newell and Son funeral home Thursday at 2, with an organ prelude at 1:30. Rev. Richard Linde, pastor of Edwards Congregational Church, will officiate and burial will be in Bridge St Cemetery. Friends are asked to omit flowers and send contributions instead to the Heart Fund, care of George Hartling at the Northampton National Bank. There will be no calling hours.
