Terre Haute Tribune Star: Alice Evelyn Brown, 89, of West Terre Haute died Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2002, in Meadows Manor North Retirement & Convalescent Center. She retired from Quaker Maid after 28 years of service. She was born Oct. 6, 1912, in West Terre Haute to Moses Fortune and Lila Mason Fortune. Her husband, Harold Brown, died earlier. Survivors include two daughters, Delores Shell of West Terre Haute and Alice Smith of Dennison, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Selvia of West Terre Haute and Edna Meyers of Terre Haute; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Norma Fortune of Brazil and Robert and Martha Fortune of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 Women's Auxiliary of West Terre Haute and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge of Terre Haute. She was a former resident of Maryvale Apartments in St. Mary-of-the-Woods. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Wilbur officiating. Burial is in Pleasantview Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bradley Fortner, Brent Fortner, Chuck Fortner, Steve Fortner, Gary Smith, Ron Smith, Jay Smith and Larry Tackett. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until services Monday.
