Services for Ruby Ester Sammons, 79, Tyler, Texas, formerly of Palestine, Texas are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Herrington Land of Memory Chapel in Palestine with the Rev. Dennis Parrott officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Palestine. Mrs. Sammons died Saturday morning, April 25, 1992, in a Tyler hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 9, 1912, in Dallas to Mitchell and Ora Belle Henry Payne. She resided in Palestine most of her life, moving to Tyler in 1988. She was a retired clerical worker for Missouri Pacific Railroad and also worked at the Red Cross and Teacher’s Credit Union in Palestine.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Palestine for many years where she was president of the Women’s Missionary Society and Sunday school teacher. She was currently a member of Green Acres Baptist Church of Tyler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Z. Sammons, in 1988.
Survivors include on son and daughter-in-law, Martin Z., Jr. and Martha, Tyler; one daughter, Glenda Sammons Adams, Houston; one sister, Hazel Taylor, Tyler; two grandchildren, Lee S. Sammons and Lisa Carol Adams, both of Tyler; and four great-grandchildren, Kara Lee Adams, Caitlin Christine Sammons, Kelsi Nicole Adams and Kenzie Carol Adams, all of Tyler.
Pallbearers are Rodney Adams, Lee Sammons, Bob Allaire, Herman Davis, Jerry Coers, George Scasta and Paul Herrington.
Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
If desired, memorials may be made to Missions of First Baptist Church in Palestine or Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.
