Purported to be the daughter of Livingston & Martha "Patsy" (PERRIN) MIMS; to have married in or about 1820 in Edgefield District, South Carolina, to Edmund Wapole HARRISON (died 29 SEP 1838 at Edgefield, South Carolina, according to family Bible records on file with the DAR Library), by whom she is said to have had at least 2 children. The obituary of her son Charles mentions that the family removed from South Carolina to Georgia in 1841. Death place of Rose Hill is not absolutely certain; her newspaper death notice reports that she died "near Columbus," and her family were living at Rose Hill later, which community was formally annexed into Columbus in 1887.

On 16 October 1823, Edmund Walpole Harrison rec’d from Estate of Livingston Mims, $587.00, for Legacy of wife, Mary Ann Mims. Also, on 1 January 1829, Edmund Walpole Harrison, shared from Estate of Tignell Mims (a brother of Livingston Mims and uncle of his wife) an equal portion with Zeb Rudolph, Martha Mims, Henry Mims (siblings of Mary Ann and other nieces/nephews of Tignell) [from "Edgefield County Marriages 1769-1880 Implied in Edgefield County, South Carolina Probate Records," by Barbara R. Langdon. - kindly provided by MLPBailey, Contributor #47041226.]

The 1850 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, shows: A. K. AYER (aged 39 years, born in Tennessee), merchant, with Mrs. M. E. AYER (36 SC), Clarissa S. AYER (7 months GA), Charly S. HARRISON (28 SC), merchant; Lucy E. HARRISON (23 GA), Edward W. HARRISON (1 GA), Mrs. Mary A. HARRISON (46 SC), and Miss Mary J. HARRISON (14 SC).

On 16 April 1856, Mary Ann Harrison wrote her will at Muscogee County, Georgia, in which she left her estate in trust for her daughter, Mary J. Harrison, "that she not be compelled to labor in her weak and frail physical condition". Dr. Hezekiah W. Edwards was named trustee and executor. Her son, Charles, was not mentioned in her will by name, but provision was made for distribution among all her heirs after the death of her daughter. "OBITUARY, Died, at the residence of her son, (C. S. HARRISON,) near this city, on Saturday the 5th inst[ant], MRS. MARY ANN HARRISON, aged 52 years. // For many months the deceased suffered the weariness of an aggravating disease of the lungs, which kept her prostrate for most of the time. But with the fortitude of a Christian she bore her afflictions without a single distrust of the merciful intentions of her heavenly father, and finally met, 'the last enemy' with that unwavering faith which a Christian's hope alone inspires. Her funeral services took place on Sunday morning at the Baptist Church, of which she was for many years an upright and consistent member. // Edgefield and Spartanburg (S. C.) papers please copy." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer newspaper, Tuesday, 15 JUL 1856, p. 3.]

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons buried in the Old Cemetery section of Linwood shows: Mary Ann HARRISON, born 21 MAR 1804, died 05 JUL 1856, aged 52 years; buried in the "Harrison" Lot - remarks: information copied from grave.

This grave may not currently be identifiably marked - however, we know from the Sexton's record that the grave had a monument with a legible inscription at one time; it is also included on the list from a 1943 survey of Linwood Cemetery conducted by the LDS Southern States Mission (this list has been alphabetized and so does not show where in the cemetery the grave is or what other graves it is near).

The HARRISON lot could be Dolores Autry's Section I, Lot 91, which has "M. J. HARRISON" on the step but shows no evidence of graves, according to Autry. Or the HARRISON Lot could instead refer to Autry's Section I, Lot 22 (see her "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book, Volume 3). Note also that members of the AYER(S) family with whom Mrs. HARRISON appears on the 1850 census appear to buried in Autry's H-55 (an "open" lot) in the Old Cemetery section; Autry reports the spelling AYERS, but at least one monument - which has six names on it - actually shows AYER.

Son: "Mr. Charles S. Harrison died at his home on Rose Hill yesterday morning about 11 o'clock, after a protracted illness of paralysis. This announcement will carry a pang of sorrow to many hearts for Mr. Harrison was one of the oldest and most highly respected of sons of Columbus. As the leading auctioneer of this city for many years, he became widely known and made friends by the score. He was a jovial, warm hearted man, but firm in his convictions and generous to his fellow man. He never made an enemy if it could be avoided, but he would not sacrifice his conception of right for any consideration. By his genial disposition, he cast a ray of sunshine on all around, and even in his protracted illness he was cheerful and helpful. He leaves a wife and six children all of whom are grown, and in their sad bereavement they have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. Mr. Harrison was 68 years of age and came to this city from Edgefield, SC. in 1841. The funeral will take place from the family residence at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon. Funeral Notice (Same date, same page) The friends and acquaintances of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Harrison are respectfully requested to attend the funeral of the former from the family residence on Rose Hill this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.
