Robert W. Bierowski, 91, formerly of Mount Carmel and Elysburg, died in Connecticut at the home of his daughter and son-in-law surrounded by his family Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016.
He was born in Green Ridge, June 3, 1925, to the late Francis and Anna (Burdish) Bierowski. Bob graduated from Mount Carmel Catholic High School after serving as a Corpsman for the Marines during World War II; he served from Aug. 30, 1943, until he was honorably discharged in Bainbridge, Maryland, May 27, 1946, having received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.
On Sept. 11, 1948, in St Ignatius Church by the Rev. Patrick J. Phelan, he married the love of his life, the late Elizabeth Gaughan, who preceded him in death Oct.19, 2015. They were married for 67 years.
Robert was a painting contractor for 60 plus years. In addition to homes he also painted more than 50 churches. He served on the school board for the Mount Carmel school system.
Bob was an active member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church until he moved to Elysburg in 1989. At Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, he was a lector and eucharistic minister. He was a devoted champion of the Cursillo Movement in the Harrisburg Diocese from 1967 to 2013 as well as a volunteer at the Lewisburg State Penitentiary for many years. He also helped organize Cursillos in the Trenton State Prison in New Jersey.
Robert is survived by his three children, Judith Smith and her husband, Flannigan, of Madison, Connecticut, Robert Bierowski and his wife, Margaret, of Danville, and Thomas Bierowski, of Kempton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Meghan Bavely and her husband, Paul, Flannigan, Ryan and Brandon Smith and Ethan Bierowski; two great-granddaughters, Marie and Makayla Bavely; as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Bierowski, Dorothy Feifer and Anna Maloch; and four brothers, Francis (Frank), Joe, John, and Jim Bierowski.
The family of Robert Bierowski would like to thank his relatives, Cursillo friends, and the staff of the Branford office of the Connecticut Hospice, especially Karen Vander Horst. You all helped to make his life blessed.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 599 Center St., Elysburg, at noon Saturday with the Rev. Patrick Devine serving as the main celebrant. Viewing will be held in the parish center of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beaverdale. C. J.
