Obituary:

Death of Mr. John Gordon.

The "Bowen Independent" reports the death of Mr. John Gordon on Thursday of last week at the age of 84 years, whose death removes another of the early pioneers. He came from Belfast in the early sixties, being one of the first group of settlers in the Proserpine district. One of a family of eleven, he is survived by a brother, James, who at the age of 93 must be Bowen's oldest citizen. The late Mr. John Gordon was one of the best pioneering type, quiet, reserved, and very straightforward and frank. He earned the respect and confidence of all those with whom he came in contact and will be sadly missed by his many friends. The late Mr. John Gordon was a well-known Proserpine identity in the earlier days. For many years he was cane farming in this district. Some years ago he disposed of his farming interests and then retired to Bowen. A sister (Mrs. M. McDonald) resides in Bowen.
