Alan Compton Eggleston was born on August 26, 1941, in Bellingham, Washington, to Richard Alan and Marjorie Compton Eggleston, and died on December 25, 2006, at the age of 65.

Alan graduated high school as valedictorian and a National Merit Scholar, then completed his education at MIT, the University of Western Washington, and the University of California, Santa Barbara, receiving his Ph.D. in biophysics in 1969. He came to The University of Texas at Austin for a post-doctoral fellowship, where he met his wife of 36 years, Fran Harrell Eggleston.

For the past 25 years, Alan worked with Craig Holmes in the consulting partnership of Eggleston Holmes and Associates. Together, they evaluated, permitted, and restored all the uranium mines in Texas, New Mexico and Wyoming, plus a number of other ecologically based endeavors. It was a partnership of mutual trust, and complimentary talents and abilities. It will leave a hole in the industry.

Alan was preceded in death by his son, Trevor, and is survived by his wife, Fran. The loss of a spouse who has been constant companion, best friend, and soul mate leaves a hole that never heals. The loss is indescribable.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2006 at Beck Funeral Home, Cedar Park, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Beck Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow in Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, Texas.

Pallbearers are David Burris, Richard Gutmann, Gary Madsen, Luke Madsen, Donnie Newlin, and Roy Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Tremmel and Doug Hamilton.

Flowers are welcome, but, if preferred, donations can be made to the Eggleston Memorial Scholarship at Leander High School, 3301 S. Bagdad Road, Leander 78641, Attn: Mrs. Isabel Cisneros.

Arrangements under the direction of Beck Funeral Home, Cedar Park/Leander, 259-1610. [Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 12/28/2006.]
