US Marine CPL Stephen Harris Allison was a member of the Marine Corps, CPL Allison served our country until October 20th, 1969 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 24 years old and was not married. It was reported that Stephen died from an exlosion from a land mine. His body was recovered. CPL Allison is on panel 17W, line 093 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.
My dad served with him in Vietnam and was a good friend. He was there when he died and actually held him in his arms. Obituary: CPL Stephen Harris Allison, 24, was killed Monday while on patrol in Da Nang, South Vietnam, according to word received here Wednesday by his family. CPL Allison, son of Fred Harris and Wilma Dagenhart Allison of the wayside Community, Route 7, Statesville, was killed by hostile action Monday while on patrol. According to information received here, he apparently stepped on an explosive device. He was assigned to Mike Company, Third Platoon, Third Battalion, First Marines. He was scheduled to be released from Military Duty in December. He was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
CPL Allison was born on November 16, 1944, and attended Cool Springs School and Graduated at Central High School in 1964. He was also a graduate of Mitchell College in 1967 and attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory. He had been employed by Langley Processing Company here prior to entering the service. CPL Allison joined the Marine Corps on April 1, 1968 and received his Basic Training at Parris Island, S.C. and advanced training at Camp LeJeune and Camp Pendleton, California. He was assigned to duty in Vietnam at Da Nang in December, 1968. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Mrs James D Warren, Route 1, Statesville, a nephew, David Warren, and a niece, Leigh Warren. Funeral plans are incomplete, pending the arrival of the body from Vietnam.
