Ray Steele, 90 passed away on October 30, 2016 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was born on January 28, 1926 in Hughes County to Benjamin Franklin Steele and Pearl Clare (Campbell) Steele.
He was the youngest of 11 children. Ray attended school at Friendship Public Schools in Hughes County. Ray will always be remembered for being a hard worker. He worked until his retirement in the oilfield patch as a roughneck. He married Clara Kelley on September 2, 1952 in Arkansas and the couple had three daughters. He always enjoyed working on his ranch whether it was cutting wood, building fences or hauling hay he could always be found working around the ranch. He was a member of the East Main Church of Christ.
Preceding him in death are his parents, siblings Pete, Richard, Jasper, Jack, Zeke, Leslie, Ralph, Frank Steele, sisters Pauline and Irene.
Survivors include his wife, Clara of the home, daughters Cathi Beck and husband Dwayne of Holdenville, Debbie Smith and husband Donnie of McCloud, and Raeann Byerly and husband Alton of Holdenville, grandchildren Christopher Jones and wife Pim, Ryan Jones, Shawn Beck, Casey Beck, Amy Cofer and husband James, Alisha Keeney and husband Scott, great-grandchildren Christopher Jones, Alyssa Jones, Betheny Jones and Ashley Jones, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30AM on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the East Main Church of Christ in Holdenville. Kevin Wright will officiate assisted by Rev. Marla Chesser. Interment will follow at the Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville.
