#17202842) as having two stones in the Elgin Cemetery. I married
into the McCully family, my mother-in-law was Lola McCully Sainsbury
1912-2002. Anyway, there is a reason for the two stones. Many years
ago when I first visited the cemetery, I thought it peculiar that
there were the two stones, so I asked around in the family.
The story I was told was that when John died, the family couldn't pay
the stone cutter for his work, so he didn't release it and it stayed
in his workshop until Sarah, John's wife died in 1913. The family
scraped the money together, went to another stonecutter for the
gravestone with BOTH names. When the estate paid the money for the
FIRST stone, the stonecutter released it, and then there were TWO.
