Leo Bender Cole
Leo (Fidge) Cole, 85, of Gassaway passed away on September 17, 2010 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was born August 17, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Chris Wilbur Bender and Gertrude Harriet Berry Bender. She was preceded in death by her husband Simon L. (Bud) Cole, Jr, brother Joel Henry Bender and sisters Marianna Sears, Katherine Hickey, and Lillian Huffman.
Surviving are daughter Lois Cole Williams and son-in-law Joseph P Williams, Jr. and son Michael Lewis Cole and daughter-in-law Marilyn Miller Cole, grandson Simon L. Cole III and wife Karri Delma Cole and sister Eleanor Schostag in CA.
Leo graduated from St Joseph’s Nursing Academy in Parkersburg as a Registered Nurse and worked at the Gassaway Hospital, Braxton County Health Department and for Dr. Huffman of Gassaway. Leo was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Gassaway High School Alumni Association and has served as 4-H leader, and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Gassaway Baptist Church.
The family would like to especially thank Hospice and Leo’s caregivers, Jeannie Carr, Carol Skinner, Connie Barrier, Rosa Simmons, Ann Briggs, Susan McKenzie, and Linda Brooks whose efforts made it possible for her to remain in her own home.
Her memorial service will be at the Gassaway Baptist Church at 1:00 on Friday, September 24, 2010. The reception will be at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be given to: Hospice at P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335 or to the Gassaway Alumni, Raymond F Frazier Memorial Fund c/o Wilma Frazier at P. O. Box 41, Elizabeth, WV 26043.
