Child of Meredith CURLEE -- evidently the Meredith CURLEE who married 18 JUL 1870 in Russell County, Alabama, to Arrie MOTE.

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: Meridith COLU [sic], died of congestion of the brain, buried 26 SEP 1874 in Section 2, Lot 993 1/2. [Galer's source was the sexton's card file (an index). The surname on the card is either written as COLU or is written as COLEE but looks like COLU, and on the microfilm of the card file, is filed between Mrs. M. COLTON and a child of Dr. COLZEY. The original burial record in the sexton's ledger book shows that this a child of Merideth [sic] COLEE [sic] that was born in Alabama, died of congestion of the brain (age not reported), and was buried in Section A2 (which was this sexton's way of saying Section 2), Lot 993 1/2, as a non-resident of Columbus, Georgia (so probably resided and died in Alabama). The sexton was James LYNAH.]

This grave is evidently not identifiably marked. A master list of lot owners for Linwood Cemetery shows Lots 993, 993 1/2 and 963 1/2 in Section 2 were owned by Meredith COLLEE [= CURLEE]; list doesn't report date of sale or price of purchase for lots. Others reported to be here include: Nannie CURLEE, buried 20 OCT 1876 (aged 18 years). Persons reported to be in 2-963 1/2 include: a child of Meredith CURLEE, buried 20 AUG 1874 (aged 11 months); and Mrs. Arrie (MOTE) CURLEE, wife of Meredith (APR 1850--15 MAR 1919). Persons reported to be in city 2-993 include: Mollie CURLEE, buried 11 SEP 1875 (age not reported); Elizabeth "Bettie" (HATLEY) CURLEE, buried 02 OCT 1884 (aged 82 years); a child of Meredith CURLEE, buried 05 JAN 1885 (aged 7 days); Lorena CURLEE, buried 10 NOV 1891 (aged 46 years); Nancy STOCKDALE (born 1877, buried 20 DEC 1911; Meredith C. [or J.?] CURLEE (born 22 AUG 1885, buried 18 MAY 1913); Alice (CURLEE) WATTS, buried 28 DEC 1938 (aged 57 years).

City 2-993, 993 1/2 and 963 1/2 correspond to Lot 137 in Section A of Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book (edited by Lea Dowd et al.), Volume 1. Autry reports here: "No evidence of graves." This lot is counter-corner to the fenced DAVIDSON lot (city 2-1017 / Autry A-135), where Leah (CURLEE) DAVIDSON and Mary (CURLEE) HEARN have graves that are not identifiably marked.
