He was the son of grocer and pub owner, Robert A. REYNOLDS (1834-1873)and his wife Eliza Sophia POWELL (1830-1889) both of England.
Ernest first immigrated at about the age of 17 (his parents did not come with him) from England to Canada where he lived for many years before immigrating to California, USA. He would lie about his age to make himself seem older than he really was. He always said he was born in 1860, as is even shown on his headstone, but he was actually born in 1862 as all of his documents say.
He usually went by his initials "E.A."
Ernest married Mary Louisa STEVENS Aug. 28, 1884 in London, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada. They went to California with her parents shortly after they got married. They had 7 children together that were all born in California.
Ernest was the founder of "Company D," in Pomona, Los Angeles Co., California, which became part of the California Militia. He soon became a Major.
